Border Princes: Turn 14

Battle erupts along the Blood River as the Gnawing Hunger and Barrow Legion charge into one another! To the north, the mountains impede the Covenant of Blood and Undead, giving the Dark Elves the advantage.

The Covenant of Blood sent banners back towards their capital as rats and skeletons cross into their territory. Their banner that had once sacked Tor Anok was slowed by the winding mountain passes and was caught by the Crimson Host. The Dark Elves enjoy a 450 point bonus in this battle! I believe that is the second time Alex has had such a huge advantage. Those Dark Elves love an unfair fight!

The Gnawing Hunger mustered all their forces to support their push into the bog, holding all of their forces. I guess there's just something about a swamp to a pack of pests.

The Crimson Host of Maltherion, driven to redeem themselves from their shame, chased down the forces of Chaos! The message is sent: do not fuck with Tor Anok.

The Barrow Legion pressed forward, determined to drive back the tide of vermin. Though they lost the initiative at the Blood River Bogs, they made a surprise attack along the river to cut off reinforcements! With the western banner occupied with their own fight, neither player will have a points advantage in either battle.

There is no compelling narrative to craft for the games this turn. OPR 3.5 was released as we organized games and much of our focus was on understanding the changes introduced. The forces of Chaos were massacred, unable to overcome the points advantage paired with the Dark Elves' newfound mobility. To the south, Ian and I enjoyed our last game of 3.4 as we battled along the river. It was exciting and memorable, with an odd combination of deployment and mission. It came down to the bitter end, with the Barrow Legion having to use March on a catapult to get it in rage of his last contesting unit to remove the last wound. The odds were about even and, after missing most shots all game, my Skull Chucker saved the day. With nowhere to fall back to, the rats were scattered.

The remaining game was my first taste of 3.5 and the new and improved Ratmen. With their newly acquired AP4 shooting, army wide speed buff, and now AP2 Doomwheels, they were a force to be reckoned with. My Vampiric Undead were less fortunate in their 3.5 treatment and it was a tremendous struggle to compete. With a few lucky rolls and a very favorable mission, I was able to take home a victory despite nearly being tabled. I think the long, dark reign of the Barrow Legion will be ending soon.

The Covenant of Blood's banner respawned at their HQ; another strangely helpful massacre considering the enemy is so close to their capital. The rats were less fortunate as their losses dropped their total territory low enough that they could no longer support 4 banners and their scattered army was lost. We are in the final stretch now and the center of the map is littered with enemies! Surely, these will be the bloodiest turns yet.
